One-Two-Go Down in Flames

Last September Dung and I took a flight to Phuket for the weekend on the budget airline One-Two-Go. We had a great weekend but a crappy flight, the plane was old and they were short-staffed. We swore we'd never fly on them again, despite having the best fare down there. Today one of their flights crashed on landing in Phuket and at least 88 people are dead, mostly foreign tourists. Makes you think. To top it off we watched United 93 this morning about the 9/11 hijackings so we were already a bit skittish over flights. Also, our buddy Clay took over the American Citizen Services unit in the consular section a couple months ago, I'm sure he's down there collecting American bodies if there are any. Glad I'm not him today.

Ari's bachelor party

A group of us, mostly Frisbee players, took Ari down to Pattaya for a bachelor party weekend. Movies were the theme, including Priscilla Queen of the Desert, and in honor of that we got Ari (former offensive lineman, 6'3") dressed up in full drag and part of a caberet show at a big theatre called Miss Tiffany's. We then went off to dinner (Ari still in drag) and then to Walking Street where all the bars and clubs are (still in drag). Needless to say we were the hit of the night.

The Simpsons in Bangkok

As part of an IPR awareness event, and more just as an excuse to do something with the new Simpsons Movie, we got together with Fox Studios and the Motion Picture Association to hold a screening of The Simpsons at the Siam Paragon cineplex. The Ambassador's a huge fan so we got a guaranteed showing from him. Fox and MPA got good press and all our contacts got in the same room to meet each other, too. We also invited the whole Chulalongkorn University film school to point out the future of the Thai film industry and the jobs that are created from protecting intellectual property. And we got to see The Simpsons for free! I saved enough tickets to get most of the gang in, too.

Cam Ranh Bay

Dung found this shirt in a Bangkok store randomly. It looks like an old thrift store T-shirt (but it's not, cost way too much). She liked it, it's got Cam Ranh Bay on it where her parents met, right around the same time period, too. Funny things you find.

Singapore Open 2007

Once again, we headed down to Singapore for the year's biggest regional Ultimate Frisbee tournament. We fielded two teams, the stellar SoiDawgz who challenge for the championship every year and then the rest of us on the SoiCowboyz who are pretty content to just win the party. We went 1-4. Singapore was hit by some real rains the week before the tournament and a big rain the morning of, so the fields were nice and muddy. They weren't the best fields so we didn't feel so bad about tearing them to shreds. That's Noah in the second picture who got a bit more mud than most.
